Great question!

When you are searching for a firearms safety class you want someone who can teach and instruct you properly. Check for credible credentials or for level of experience. Look for an instructor who will be patient with you, especially, if it’s your first time handling a firearm. I say this in lieu of witnessing such rudeness and impatiences at the gun range. On one Saturday afternoon, Instructor Jeff and I were training a great group of individuals at the range. Standing nearby was also a male instructor with a group of ladies. From time to time, I would glance over to see what was being taught to the ladies. To my dissatisfaction, I was appalled at how the instructor was speaking to the women in such a negative arrogant tone. I heard…

“JUST PICK IT UP!”

“WHY ARE YOU SO AFRAID!”

“IT’S NOT THAT HARD!”

“WOW!”

C’MON!” and so forth.

I saw the looks on the women faces, especially the look of one, who didn’t seem too pleased at being spoken to in such a demeaning tone. To be clear, there will be times when firearm training will involve strong commands, comments, tones and other unpleasantries. Reason being, learning about firearm safety is not a comfortable or light-hearted subject. It is a very serious class. The instructor’s job is to make sure that everyone leaves away from that class well-informed and safe! However, the instructor should never stoop to shaming students in class or be insensitive or demeaning.

Again, when you’re searching for a firearms safety class you should seek reputable information concerning the instructor, business or company. You should also inquire about the level of experience or credentials that the instructor has. Read feedbacks or post on social media outlets, forums or blogs concerning the instructor or of student’s experiences. Visit YouTube to see if the instructor posted training videos to see him or her in action. Ask other people what they thought of their training. Find out where the instructor teaches classes. Google the instructor or their business. Check Yelp and other visitor’s feedback rating sites and so forth.

Brick Street Safety Academy would love to have you as a student in one of our classes. However, if you do not live in the area or you’re not close by to take a class, make sure to do your homework before you register for a class with some other instructor!

Be Alert, Be Aware and most definitely BE SAFE!! 🙂
